The main objective of this project is the creation of a scientific network of excellence dedicated to prion diseases.
These neurodegenerative diseases affect both livestock and human populations in the cross-border region. There is currently no treatment or ante-mortem diagnostic test for these diseases. The transmission of animal prions to humans (zoonosis) through the consumption of contaminated products is a major concern for European health authorities. Our project aims to coordinate the action and skills of academic research centers, hospital groups and innovative companies in the cross-border region in order to :
• Better protect populations against the risks associated with Prion diseases (zoonosis and iatrogenic transmission)
• Develop innovative therapeutic approaches and diagnostic tools for patients
• Ensure the sustainability of livestock sectors in the cross-border region in the face of the risks caused by prion diseases (agri-food)
• Inform managers and professionals in charge of Public and Animal Health, stakeholders in production sectors and the general public about solutions and innovations in preventing the risks associated with these diseases.
