Axe 3 : Neuro-biomécanique – Biomarqueurs de la motricité saine et altérée / Theme 2

Role of rhythm on motor learning and rehabilitation in children with motor disorders

This axis have been initiated on paediatric populations with motor disorders or difficulties. Firstly, the effects of rhythmic multisensory stimulations were tested on learning of bimanual responses in children with Cerebral Palsy = CP (APP-PaC project). Preliminary results are encouraging to design rehabilitation focused on rhythmic multisensory synchronization in CP (= RMS dance program). In this vein, the longitudinal effects of a dance program on motor and cognitive functions in teenagers in CP were tested revealing beneficial specific effects of the adapted dance program on balance and rhythm production. Based on these preliminary results, this axis aims to propose a more global perspective by exploring multidimensional benefits of dance practice, especially the role of rhythmic multisensory stimulations present in dance, in typical and atypical development (effects on cognitive, motor, psychosocial and cerebral functions).
